Bio-pic1About JK DeLapp, Dipl. OM, L.Ac.

As a medical school student, JK DeLapp became curious about the precursors to modern Western medicine and the associated industries of pharmaceuticals, nutraceuticals, incense, and cosmetics. He began a formal exploration of the old ways of the Orient and the ancient spice trade and was intrigued by what he learned about the alchemical traditions of the East, and the secret aromatic traditions of his native West.

His studies led him to the realization that the very materials he was using in a medical context were many of the same ingredients that appear in luxury fragrances and innumerable cosmetic products. He began to use ancient traditions to compound his own incense, and make his own fine fragrances and aromatic household products. He eventually turned this passion into a business focused on fragrancing people’s bodies, minds, and spirits with the finest all-natural, raw materials in the world.

In 2011, JK and his brother Kyle launched The Rising Phoenix Group to sell premium hand-made fragrances to an exclusive clientele. This business opened the door to several multi-billion dollar markets including the perfume, cosmetic, nutraceutical and pharmaceutical industries.

In 2012, JK shared his experience with natural perfumery in an online course for Floracopeia called Aromatic Artistry — the first of its kind. Today JK has students in dozens of countries, and has helped people start their own companies all over the globe. His passion and expertise is in setting up artisanal distillation operations, and making products that enrich the world around them.

JK DeLapp has over fifteen years experience as an herbalist, with five years of formal education in Chinese medicine & East Asian medical herbalism from the Pacific College of Oriental Medicine. He is certified as a Licensed Acupuncturist (L.Ac.) by the NCCAOM and holds a Diploma of Oriental Medicine (DiplOM). He is known and loved for his engaging, humorous, one-step-at-a-time teaching style.
